PETER BIALOBRZESKI: TEACH AND WORK

German photographer and former World Press Photo judge Peter Bialobrzeski was in Manila from late January to late February 2008 taking pictures of the cityscape for a project called “Urban Spaces”. The city was his 5th stop in a series of residencies arranged by the Goethe-Institut in Southeast Asia. Prior to Manila, he was in Hanoi, Bangkok, Jakarta and Kuala Lumpur. The last stop for the project was Singapore.

During his stay, he conducted workshops for a select group of Philippine photographers at the Silverlens Gallery. This website presents the works of Estan Cabigas, Gigie Cruz, Tammy David, Kidlat de Guia, Che Katigbak, Cathy Quiogue, Dennis Rito and Cris Sevilla, which were all produced during the course of the workshop. All deal with various aspects of urbanity, from open spaces to demolitions to bridges to beauty contest aspirants and everything else in between. The photos will be included in a Goethe-Institut exhibit that will be travelling around Southeast Asia later this year.

The Manila leg of “Peter Bialobrzeski: Teach and Work” is brought to you by the Goethe-Institut Manila, in cooperation with Silverlens Gallery and the Konrad Adenauer Asian Center for Journalism at the Ateneo de Manila University.
